Fiction

I was recently perusing reviews on Goodreads for a book that I recently read. No, it wasn't for one of my books. (Really! I promise) Although, I've read similar comments for books I've written. All right, the point of this post isn't about people's inability to round numbers(3.5 stars should be 4 stars). It is to share a definition I feel some readers have forgotten.

The word in question is FICTION. fic·tion ˈfikSHən/Submit noun literature in the form of prose, especially short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people. invention or fabrication as opposed to fact. plural noun: fictions "he dismissed the allegation as absolute fiction" synonyms: fabrication, invention, lies, fibs, untruth, falsehood, fantasy, nonsense More antonyms: fact

The reviews I read mentioned that they, the reader, gave a lower rating because the storyline, or in some cases a character's development arc was unrealistic. Really???? Please, before you are disappointed in a story check out the genre!

The book I read, as well as the books I've written, are classified as FICTION! The book I read is in a subcategory of ROMANCE. Romantic Fiction! My books are categorized as Romantic Thriller Fiction. Are you seeing a pattern? Many people, including myself, read to be taken away from real life. We read to escape and experience instances that will more than likely never occur within our real lives. IF you want to read realistic situations, may I recommend NON-FICTION? There are some amazing NON-Fiction books.
However, to discount a fictitious story because it is indeed FICTION is ridiculous and very annoying to those of us who do in fact know the definition. This is solely my opinion. I mean, if you'd like me to write about doing laundry and driving my children to soccer practice I can do that.

If you want to read about hot men, amazing surroundings, and twisted wild scenarios, then I recommend you stick with fiction. Because for most of us, as my husband pointed out, the pizza delivery man is not a super stud who is really a billionaire waiting to take you away from laundry and provide you with a driver for soccer practice.

The choice is yours. If you chose Fiction...recognize that is exactly what you're going to get!!

I realize that there is a trend to "rewrite" stories from another POV and the story is essentially the same. I promise that is not the case with Behind His Eyes Convicted: THE MISSING YEARS (Way too long of a title...but I was stuck with my ISBN#...that's another story)

THE MISSING YEARS is everything you only "heard" about in Convicted told through the important men in Claire's life. It is a full-length novel that spans the 2 missing years and into Tony and Claire's future.

I want to shout it from the roof tops.

"This is not the same story!! Please read!!"

I will admit that writing this book was hard. I didn't want to go to some of the places I went, but I did. And now that it's done, I SO want everyone who read Convicted to read this.

You do NOT need to have read the other companions. This is NOT a companion. It is book #4.

And here's a secret...it will be rereleased with a new one word title and an new cover in about a month. At that time the price will go to $4.99 to match Truth and Convicted, because, yes, it's that good and that complete.

So...with that knowledge...jump on board NOW and get the "long title version" of Behind His Eyes Convicted: THE MISSING YEARS for only $3.99.

This is the book you MUST have after Convicted!!!

NO LONGER A COMPANION

So...have you ever said never and regretted it??

When I completed CONVICTED I wrote a note at the end of the book. In that note I thanked my wonderful readers and said that the CONSEQUENCES Series was complete, to use your imagination at what the future would bring. When I wrote that, I meant every word. Then, I began writing the "Companions". The Behind His Eyes Series was meant for one thing...to answer the question "What the hell was Tony thinking?" I mean, I knew what he was thinking, but he didn't always spell it out.

The reviews for the companions have been great! I did my best to not be redundant and give you some never before seen information, behind the scenes, if you will.

Fast forward...I began writing the final "companion". It wasn't easy. I'd already given it the subtitle THE MISSING YEARS. I struggled and struggled and then BOOM! My fingers couldn't move fast enough. I was no longer only in Tony's head, but I understood that HIS meant male POV. Suddenly the story is coming at me from Brent, Harry, John, Phil, and of course Tony! The two years in Convicted while Claire is "sleeping", that we only heard about came out in these multiple men's POV's. And I love it!

It is almost 100,000 words (longer than many novels out there today). It takes the reader to places that even I didn't know about. My little "companion" grew into a novel! So...what to do? This is what I'm doing. I have renumbered my series. Consequences - Book 1, Truth - Book 2, Convicted - Book 3, and Behind His Eyes Convicted: THE MISSING YEARS - Book 4. The companions: Behind His Eyes Consequences - Book 1.5 and Behind His Eyes Truth - Book 2.5. The companions were written with love and sweat. I don't want to minimize their significance to my series. HOWEVER, THE MISSING YEARS is in a whole different category.

It is MANDATORY reading for anyone who has completed Consequences, Truth, and Convicted. I apologize for the confusion but not for the end result. THE MISSING YEARS answers every question and allows readers a first-hand experience at what was only previously mentioned...see Tony's trials and struggles with conviction. Be there as Harry figures out the connection that he doesn't want to make. Watch as John struggles with his past and present feelings regarding his brother-in-law and as Emily makes important decisions. It is ALL there! And more.

THE MISSING YEARS doesn't end with Convicted's epilogue. NO!! THE MISSING YEARS goes beyond into the lives of everyone who was affected by a man who... Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul. —Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED

Book #4 of the Consequences Series is now available for presale on Amazon. And will be available everywhere May 20, 2014. PLEASE do NOT miss this complete story...book #4...the final piece to the CONSEQUENCES SERIES! **New Cover coming soon**

You're never to old to learn a lesson

I am publicly apologizing to SEE.

Who is See, you may ask? Well, I don't know.

Why am I apologizing?  Because I forgot the power of social media. I did something that resulted in CONSEQUENCES I never intended. I perpetuated what is commonly referred to as cyber bullying.

Did I intend to do that? NO!

Last night I posted on Facebook that I read a 1 Star review of my first book Consequences. The review, literally, made me giggle. I am no stranger to 1 Stars. When I received my first one I cried. Yes, I did. It was actually my FIRST Amazon review. So there was my newly published book with 1 review, a 1 star. Now, two and one half years later, that same book has over 1000 reviews, 650+ are 5 Stars,, 170+ are 4 stars, and yes, 70 are 1 Stars.

A few years ago, I was communicating with a representative of one of the "big" publishing houses. He told me that he loved the reviews of Consequences. He said that 1 Stars are as important as 5 Stars because they show that my writing evokes emotion in readers. From that moment on, my attitude toward 1 Star reviews changed.

I evoke emotion! Check me out!

The reason the review I posted on my Facebook page made me giggle was that the reviewer not only bestowed the title of "Worse Book Ever" (Pretty damn cool when you consider the millions of books out there) but the reviewer went on to say that she (he) didn't finish the book, skipped a lot, and read the end. It was all bad. I laughed.

My post was meant "tongue in cheek" to say...hmmm maybe if you actually read the book - all of it, you might have liked it, or not liked it, based on evidence.

I wasn't upset. I don't dislike this reviewer. I don't wish bad things on her (him).

I forgot that in the world of social media, I have fans. That is hard for me to say. I'm not a person who thinks of myself as having "fans". I have readers. People who enjoy or enjoy hating my make believe friends. Nevertheless, I have people who love me and feel the need to protect me. For that I'm grateful.

Posting that review was not meant as an invitation for those people who care about ME to attack SEE.

I learned that I have a responsibility to use my forum in a way to promote my books and promote others. I learned that the misuse of that forum can result in unintended glitches.

I promise SEE, my family, my friends, and my readers that I will work to remember this lesson.

Looking back on 2013

I'm not a big fan of "year in review" shows or articles...for some reason they make me sad...

I can NOT however enter 2014 without acknowledging 2013 for what it was and what it has meant to me.

It was the year that my life changed forever!

I can't believe that I just sent off my fourth book to my wonderful formatter and that it will be live in less than three weeks! I am floored and honored every time I see a list of authors or books and my name is among the ranks of authors I both admire and idolize. I am humbled when I go to a signing and I look up and see a line of people waiting to see -- ME? I am honored when I receive messages from readers who are touched by the words in my books, when they tell me stories of their life struggles and how Tony and Claire have helped them.

To be honest, I feel like I'm living someone else's life...I feel like this can't be real. I mean, how did this happen to me?

Consequences was released in August of 2011. During its first year of publication, it sold 536 copies! That is NOT the building block for a Trilogy...much less one that will hit both the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling lists.

Truth was released in October of 2012. With that, my world began to change.

Whether you were one of the first 536 readers (and if you were, I'm pretty sure my mom told you to read) or if you found me in late 2012 or into 2013...I can't express in words my gratitude for your devotion.

The wonderful world of book blogs...mostly Romance Book Blogs...found me. With that discovery...you changed my life. I'll never forget a "live chat" with Debra from the Book Enthusiast where I was asked if I would be in Boston for a signing. I didn't know anything about book signings and I had not been invited. My husband and I decided to just "go" and "see".

That decision was MONUMENTAL!

Readers learned that I planned to attend the signing and Trish Brinkley, signing planner extraordinaire, helped me to arrange a separate signing. It was my first author event and with that 2013 took me to a dozen different venues!

Thank you Boston, Massachusetts - Bradenton, Florida - Columbus, Ohio - Orlando, Florida - Atlanta, Georgia - San Francisco, California - Las Vegas, Nevada - Phoenix, Arizona - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Toronto, Canada - New Haven, Connecticut - and Richmond, Virginia! You were all amazing!!!

During 2013 I became PAN "Published Author Network" in RWA. Consequences and Truth both reached bestseller status on Amazon, B&N, and Kobo...and the achievement that made me breakdown in tears at a local restaurant, Convicted hit New York Times bestseller.

As I closed one chapter on my life, working as a dental hygienist, I was warmed by the reception I received entering the world of a full-time author. The friendships that have developed with other authors and with readers and bloggers have broadened my world beyond the confines of my new office in Greenwood, Indiana. I KNOW that I have friends ALL OVER who would be there for me, as I would be for them. The support, pictures, collages, and videos that have been made for me...the word of mouth recommendations...I hope you all know...I am so grateful!

I recently had someone say to me, "Aren't you glad you decided to write a book? I mean, it seems like such an easy gig. You write a book and smile nicely at people. Who wouldn't want your job?"

lol! Well, let me just say...despite common belief, it isn't quite that easy. That person forgot one VERY important element to the equation.  First you write a book and then...PEOPLE must READ it!

When I sum up my feelings toward the monumental milestones of 2013 I have to say, "THANK YOU FOR READING! THANK YOU FOR BUYING! THANK YOU FOR SHARING AND TELLING OTHERS!" One does not simply write a book and smile...writing takes long hours, sweat, and tears! There are many more of those than there are smiles. It also takes support.

"THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THAT SUPPORT!"

I can only hope that 2014 continues this amazing journey! I can't wait to see what is in store!

To all my readers...HAPPY NEW YEAR! MAY YOUR 2014 BE EVERYTHING MY 2013 WAS AND MORE!!!!

Love,

Aleatha
